On Oct 1st 2015, Mr. Nishanth Koganti (a special research student) and Prof. Tomohiro Shibata have received ICROS Award for the Best Application Paper Award of IROS 2015. IROS is a prestigious international conference for robotics. This study was led by Prof. Shibata, and was a collaborative work with Nara Institute of Science and Technology. It is about their world-leading study on clothing assistance robot. In this paper, they proposed to use Kinect V2 (Microsoft Corp.) instead of expensive, space-consuming, and relatively hard-to-use optical-marker based motion capturing systems, in order to automatically recognize cloth-human relationship necessary to accomplish clothing, and showed feasibility and plausibility through experiments with a dual-arm robot.
