Education Program Based on Practice and Hands-on Training
Joint Graduate School in Intelligent Car, Robotics & AI
This is a joint program of three graduate schools at Kitakyushu Science and Research Park together with the Kyutech Graduate School of Engineering and Graduate School of Computer Science & Systems Engineering, for the development of top-level specialized professionals in the automobile, robotics and AI industries by educating and training students from a wide range of mechanical, control, information, and electronic fields. Approximately twenty master’s degree candidates are to be selected for enrollment in this program at the beginning of the academic year, together with a small number of doctoral degree candidates. Studies performed in this program are additional to those of the regular graduate schools and departments. Students in this program earn a designated number of credit units for completed subjects, including elective compulsory subjects (Introduction to AI & Robotics, Automobile Engineering, and AI seminar). A comprehensive practicum is also selected. For further information, visit our website.
Program for Research and Education leading to International Awareness
This program continues and expands the “Training Program for Educating Globally Aware Researchers” adopted in conjunction with the “Program for Enhancing Systematic Education in Graduate Schools” of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Technology (MEXT) (2007 to 2009). The principal aim of this program is to, from a global perspective, foster researchers and engineers with the ability to understand other cultures and communicate in English along with a surpassing capability to conduct specialized research. Master’s and doctoral degree students who apply and are selected for participation in this program receive practical English instruction from foreign faculty members and perform short-term study overseas at universities that have student exchange agreements and other universities decided by mutual agreements between the student and his/her supervisor. The students who participate develop enhanced language competence and become active in presenting papers and entering discussions at international conferences and meetings. Special Program for Learning in English with International Students
The Graduate School of Life Science and Engineering welcomes a diverse group of international students from numerous countries who come to study here.
Advanced Assistive Robotics Program (Global AAR Program)
This program envisions the use of robots in collaborative human–robot workplaces as well as in medical and welfare support. It provides education and conducts research and development on intelligent systems that reduce labor burden and improve productivity in factories, hospitals, and care facilities, while enhancing the quality of daily life. Since fiscal year 2015, the program has been selected for a special program by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), which gives priority placement to international graduate students studying in Japan under government scholarships. Through this program, international and Japanese students learn together beyond linguistic and cultural barriers, aiming to become globally active robotics engineers.
The program also offers a variety of learning opportunities, including a journal club for reading and discussing the latest research papers, seminars by distinguished international lecturers, and practicums related to healthcare and welfare using service robot programming, artificial intelligence, 3D printers, and modular robotic systems.

Global Education in Green Energy, Green Environment, and Green Economy for Global Innovation Leaders Program
The GE4 (GE Quad) program nurtures global innovation leaders who will guide society towards sustainability by integrating environmental and economic perspectives with cyclical technologies for the creation, conversion, utilisation and regeneration of energy. The program aims to develop professionals who can bridge the gap between science and technology and societal implementation, creating new value within the ASEAN region where energy, environmental and economic challenges are advancing simultaneously. Starting in 2026, this program has been selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's “Special Program for Priority Placement of Government-sponsored International Students”, and it has established an international education system in which international and Japanese students can study and collaborate together. The Master's program can be completed entirely in English and is designed to enhance globally applicable professional skills. During the GE4 seminar, faculty members from partner universities in Japan and abroad, as well as industry experts, share insights on the latest trends in carbon neutrality and green energy, equipping students with the practical knowledge needed to address social issues. Additionally, through international PBL (problem-based learning), students address issues overseas and develop international collaboration skills. Furthermore, entrepreneurship education fosters the ability to think and act with a view to the social implementation of advanced technologies.
